Excel shortcuts for Mac

Excel for Mac shows key tips for the ribbon tabs, but not for the menus those tabs open, so a Windows sequence dies halfway through. ALT labels every row of an open menu and runs the one you press.

ALT never reads your spreadsheet. It sees your keystrokes only while Excel is in front, and reads the labels of whatever menu Excel has open. Nothing is recorded, and nothing leaves your Mac.

1. Drag ALT to your Applications folder and open it.
2. Click Open System Settings, find ALT in the Accessibility list, and switch it on.
3. In Excel, open Settings, choose Accessibility, and set KeyTips to Option.
4. Tap Option in a spreadsheet. The letters appear on the ribbon.

macOS 13 or later, and Microsoft Excel 16.89 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel.
